Toy Tractor Scales Explained
Our toy tractor scale guide breaks down the different tractor scales in our collection to help you find the perfect toy vehicle for your child’s collection.
When you’re looking at the different toy tractor scales, bear in mind that the lower the number after the colon, the bigger the size of the toy tractors.
Here’s a helpful table to help you understand the difference between the different scale options:
Toy Tractor Scale | Toy Size | Toy Collections | Recommended Age |
---|---|---|---|
1:16 | 30 x 20 x 20 cm | Bruder, Britains | 3+ |
1:32 | 20 x 7 x 10 cm | Britains, Siku | 3+ |
1:50 | 11 x 7 x 4 cm | Siku | 3+ |
1:64 | 7.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm | 3+ | |
1:87 | 6 x 4 x 3 cm | Siku | 3+ |
1:128 | 4.2 x 2.1 x 2.5 cm | 4+ |
What is a Tractor Scale?
A tractor scale is a ratio that represents the size difference between a toy tractor model and the real-life tractor it's modelled after. This ratio, often presented as two numbers separated by a colon (for example, 1:32), shows how many times smaller the toy is compared to the actual vehicle.
In this example, the toy tractor is 32 times smaller than its real-life counterpart. So, when you see a lower number after the colon, it implies a larger toy because it's fewer times smaller than the real tractor. Understanding tractor scales allows you to choose the right size toy for your needs and preferences.
How Big is a 1:16 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 30cm x 20cm x 20 cm Recommended age: 3 years +
This is the largest size for tractors. They’re big and chunky, mainly made by Bruder or Britains Big Farm, from good quality plastic, with lots of trailers and other accessories available, too. Tractors at this scale are perfect for toddlers who love farming.
How Big is a 1:32 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 20cm x 7cm x 10 cm Recommended age: 3 years +
This is the most popular size and has the largest stock. This size can have smaller bits on it, such as wing mirrors – so it's not ideal for toddlers or children with an energetic play style.
The tractors and other farm vehicles are mainly Britains Farmyard 1:32 and Siku Farmer 1:32, of which Siku is the more robust. Both are die-cast metal and plastic.
How Big is a 1:50 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 11cm x 7cm x 4cm Recommended age: 3 years +
This is a fabulous new size of toy tractors, trailers and other farm accessories. They’re an ideal size for children's hands.
Bigger than the Matchbox or Hot Wheels size but smaller than the more traditional Siku or Britains 1:32 scale tractors. Because it’s relatively new, the choice is more limited than in other scale ranges, but manufacturers are slowly designing more and more each year in this scale. There are now multi-purpose farm buildings available to keep your 1:50 tractors in.
How Big is a 1:64 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 7.5cm x 3cm x 2.5 cm Recommended age: 3 years +
This is a popular scale size commonly used for Matchbox and Hotwheels cars. However, you can also find a few toy tractors in this scale range.
These tractors are smaller than both the 1:50 scale and the traditional 1:32 scale, making them ideal for small hands or for those looking to build a collection without taking up too much storage space.
How Big is a 1:87 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 6cm x 4cm x 3 cm Recommended age: 3 years +
This size is similar to Hotwheels or Matchbox cars and mostly made by Siku. It includes an incredible range of tractors, trailers and accessories. Harry has quite a collection of these farm vehicles, which are kept in a Tractor Ted Rucksack, perfect for taking on long car journeys or away for weekends. It's important to note that there is some variation in this range.
How Big is a Micro 1:128 Scale Tractor?
Approximate size: 4.2cm x 2.1cm x 2.5 cm (yes tiny!) Recommended age: 4 years +
These tractors and trailers are 'micro' size. They are 1:128 scale (smaller than Matchbox) and are the smallest ones we do. Please note they won't fit the 1:87 scale vehicles. These tractors aren't suitable for younger children under 4 due to their small size and the risk of choking.

FAQs
What Brand Makes the Biggest Toy Tractors?
Bruder and Britains make the biggest toy tractors in our collection at the 1:16 scale.
Do the Scales Affect the Quality of the Toy?
The scale of a tractor toy does not necessarily correlate with its quality. However, different manufacturers may use different materials and production methods that could affect the overall quality of the toy.
Can I Mix and Match Different Toy Scale Sizes?
Yes, you can mix and match different scale sizes as long as they are within a reasonable range. For example, 1:32 and 1:50 tractors would look fine together, but mixing 1:16 and 1:87 might look disproportionate. Generally, it's best to stick to the same scale.
Why is it Important to Know the Tractor Scale?
Knowing the tractor scale can help you choose the right size of toy for your child's age and play preferences. It also helps when building a collection or setting up a display, ensuring all vehicles are proportionate to each other.
